“Family,” Birmingham Town Hall.
THE raw, insistent sounds created by “Family” entranced the audience last night. Some sat hypnotised in their seats while others, spurred on by the primitive, pounding beat, danced in the aisles.
Describing the musical versatility of “Family” as unique hardly does them justice. They cannot be labelled with the “in” terms of today for their individual and original style is really beyond positive classification.
To describe their music as progressive or underground are understatements for it cannot be pinned down to any one category.
Singer Roger Chapman boasts an uncanny vocal pitch and fluency which somehow managed to survive above the vibrant, throbbing tones of his musicians.
American girl singing-instrumental duo Emily Muff, put a bridge between folk and blues contrasting modern lyrical imagery with highly individual music.
