A Turn Unstoned? — Polish review
Contemporary review. Rafał Motriuk begins with Chapman’s voice, describing its mixture of rasp, vibrato and expression as something without a real equivalent. The album opens decisively with “Riot on the Western Front”: harmonica, organ and rhythm section arrive with a hard but melodic impact.
Motriuk considers the music direct rather than revolutionary—rock played for pleasure by a veteran who knows the form intimately. The distinction is important: simple, but never simplistic. He praises the nine-piece cast, the flow of the record and its well-chosen covers, closing with particular approval for Chapman’s reading of the Cars’ “Drive.”
