Roger Chapman released Hide Go Seek on 8 May 2009 as a 28-track double studio album. Drawn from unreleased recordings and alternate studio versions assembled across different periods, it is best understood as an archival studio album rather than a conventional hits compilation. Former Family bassist Jim Cregan co-produced the collection and contributed guitar and songwriting, renewing a musical partnership that stretched back to the early 1970s.

Hide Go Seek — Abendzeitung critical note
Album assessment within a concert review. Writing after Chapman’s appearance at Munich’s Ampere, Michael Grill draws a sharp distinction between the performer onstage and the sound of Hide Go Seek. He finds the collection’s presentation too smooth and too close to mainstream rock.
The concert supplies the counterargument: Chapman’s voice remains unmistakable, and the live performance is described as intense, joyful and forceful. Grill’s brief album criticism is valuable precisely because it records a contemporary reservation—the polished anthology did not, for this listener, capture the rougher energy that Chapman could still summon in the room.
Hide Go Seek — Stereo review
Contemporary review. In a concise assessment published in Stereo 7/2009, P. Bickel treats Hide Go Seek as an expansive introduction to Chapman’s solo career rather than a collection for casual sampling. Across four discs, the set offers enough material for an extended exploration of more than thirty years and over twenty albums.
The review also emphasizes the calibre of the musicians heard throughout the collection. Its verdict is brief but positive: for a listener prepared to enter Chapman’s large catalogue, the anthology provides a rich and sustained journey.
