Roger Chapman released Kiss My Soul on 13 May 1996. His eleventh solo studio album was produced by Dieter Falk and featured the settled Shortlist line-up of Steve Simpson, Laurie Wisefield, Gary Twigg, Ian Gibbons, Pat Crumly, John Lingwood and Helen Hardy. The 15 April Dingwalls concert had served as a pre-release preview.

Kiss My Soul — Music & Media review
Contemporary review. Music & Media hears no loss of force after three decades of Chapman’s career, arguing that the English R&B singer can still stand on equal terms with more famous contemporaries.
With the exceptions of Russ Ballard’s “Mistreated” and Bob Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” the album is built from original material. The review considers Chapman’s writing undiminished and chooses “Into the Bright,” “One More Whisky” and “Outside Looking In” as highlights.
