1983

21 recorded events from 1983.

Mango Crazy and a dense European touring schedule kept Chapman at the centre of the archive. His vocal on Mike Oldfield's “Shadow on the Wall” created a major continental hit, while Wetton's Asia followed with Alpha, Townsend appeared on The Blues Band's live farewell document, and Jim Cregan continued with Rod Stewart on Body Wishes.

Chapman's Shortlist on the East German leg of the Mango Crazy tour, at Rostock on the Baltic coast — recorded in full and released in 2005 on Mystic as Chappo: The Loft Tapes Vol. 2 – Rostock 1983. The set opened with 'He Was She Was', and ran 'Hyenas', 'Midnight Child' (with Chapman's improvised "well she comes all the way from Rostock" coda), Mango Crazy material 'Turn It Up Loud' and 'Hunt The Man' (Pentelow's synth feature), 'Barman' (Simpson slide), a medley of Sam Cooke's 'Bring It On Home' into 'I Need Your Loving Everyday' with Boz Burrell lead vocal, Willie Dixon's 'Oop Poo Pa Doo', 'Prisoner', 'Who Pulled The Night Down' segueing into 'Hit The Road Jack' and 'Talk About You' and Don Nix's 'Going Down', 'Toys' (Rostock name-checked again), and closed with Hendrix's 'Stone Free'. Chapman: "Mango Crazy had become my first self-produced chart album, and we were playing to big crowds... there were many Family fans of old and this was their first chance to see me".
