1996

14 recorded events from 1996.

Kiss My Soul, Chapman's eleventh solo studio album, arrived in May after an April preview at Dingwalls and launched a strong new touring phase. Jim Cregan also stepped forward as a founding writer, guitarist and producer in Bernie Taupin's Farm Dogs, whose debut Last Stand in Open Country appeared during the year.

Dingwalls (Camden, London) — Kiss My Soul media presentation
The Kiss My Soul London afternoon presentation at Dingwalls in Camden. The stripped-down band comprised Chapman, producer Dieter Falk (keyboards), guitarist Steve Simpson, saxophonist Pat Crumley and backing vocalist Helen Hardy. Eight songs from the forthcoming album were previewed: the Steve Simpson co-writes 'Kiss My Soul' (title track) and 'A Cat Called Kokomo'; the John Wetton co-write 'Into The Bright' (written during a holiday visit to Wetton in LA at a friend's studio); the Laurie Wisefield co-write 'Habits Of A Lifetime' (Crumley sax); 'One More Whisky' (Hardy bv); 'Song Of Desire'; 'Outside Looking In'; and a Willie Dixon / Dylan segue in which Chapman slipped from 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' into 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue' over a single sustained drone. 'Drive' — a Chapman favourite he loved but felt was "basically out of my range" — was on the album but not performed live at the showcase. The session was released in 2005 on Mystic as Chappo: The Loft Tapes Vol. 3 – London Dingwalls 15.4.1996.
